It is the culmination of exhaustive work by members of Tonari Gumi, the Japanese Community Volunteers Association. The book showcases growing and foraging tips and stories from seasoned gardeners. Forty delicious recipes (with vegan options) highlight these wonderful vegetables. Guides to using Japanese ingredients and methods for traditional culinary techniques are also included. Perhaps most important is the telling of the Japanese Canadian experience through biographies and interviews with community elders.
