Ottawa's historic apartment buildings tells the fascinating story of how apartment house living emerged in 20th century Ottawa focusing on Centertown, Sandy Hill and parts of Lowertown East. Apartment buildings changed from modest three-storey walk-ups to "Grande Dames" like the Shefford and Strathcona, to sleek modernist high-rises like the Juliana and Park Square. These new forms of housing emerged in response to demographic and economic pressures, and evolving social norms.
