Jerry Grey: On the Grid / Et la Grille (1968-1978)
OAG
Texts by Susan Crean and Michelle Gewurtz
This bilingual catalogue examines the decade during which Ottawa artist Jerry Grey explored the grid as a visual structure, following her participation in the influential Emma Lake Artist’s Workshops in Saskatchewan. The publication accompanies the OAG’s exhibition Jerry Grey On the Grid (1968-1978) and focuses on work ranging from the artist’s intricate grid works to her first public commission Great Canadian Equalizer (1978). Painting and colour studies reproduced here illustrate Grey’s exploration of space, form and colour, while essays by curator Michelle Gewurtz and writer Susan Crean explore Grey’s influences, colour, and relation to abstraction.
